Lean Manufacturing Consulting Training

Lean Management Increase your profitsLean Manufacturing:  Even if you aren’t a manufacturer, you probably have operations that repeat frequently that can benefit from lean manufacturing concepts and tools.  Used to reduce labor costs, reduce inventory and delivery time of all (not just expedited) orders, Lean Manufacturing includes these tools and concepts, many of them based on key principles from the Toyota Production System (TPS).

The focus is on eliminating the 7 wastes:

  • Overproduction
  • Overprocessing
  • Transportation
  • Motion
  • Inventory
  • Waiting
  • Scrap

While there are many, many techniques used in eliminating waste, some of the common ones include:

  • Value Stream Mapping. Creating flow charts that are then used to identify waste and to set priorities in opportunities
  • 5S. A structured approach to cleaning up and organizing a work area, creating efficiency.
  • Line balancing – matching the capacity to the demand
  • Work standardization – a key to reducing variability and scrap
  • Visual tools – systems for making it easy to tell what is going on
  • Work Flow Controls – including Kanbans and Sunrise meetings to keep things moving
  • Constraint Identification and Management. Your output is limited by the slowest operations, the constraint.

It’s about fixing the process, not just telling your employees to work harder, faster or be more careful.
