No man is an island…

Process – the way the work is done is the heart of any improvement.  But process is only one piece of the puzzle.  In the real world there is a lot more going on.  For example, the changes need to support the overall strategy of the organization.  Technology often dictates the process or at minimum it interacts with it.  The leadership needs to see the value in making results measurable and predictable and standardizing procedures to take advatage of the knowlege of best practices.  There needs to be a culture that values and rewards improvements.  And ultimately the people doing the work must be willing to use the improved methods and build their own skills.
